OpenMontage

OpenMontage is an open-source, agentic video production system that turns any AI coding assistant — Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Windsurf, Codex — into a complete video production workbench. It ships with 12 pipelines, 52 tools, and 500+ agent skills. Describe the video you want in natural language, and the agent handles research, scriptwriting, storyboarding, asset generation, editing, compositing, and final delivery.

The system runs in five stages. Stage one is research: the agent searches the live web for topic background and pulls from licensed asset libraries. Stage two is script and storyboard: it structures the narrative, writes the narration, and plans each shot. Stage three is asset generation: it supports image models like FLUX, Recraft, GPT Image, and Google Imagen, video models like Veo, Kling, and Runway, and ships built-in access to free stock libraries such as Pexels, Unsplash, and Pixabay for real footage. Stage four is editing and compositing: it integrates TTS engines like Google Chirp3-HD, OpenAI TTS, and ElevenLabs for voiceover, WhisperX for word-level subtitles, and Remotion for the final render. Stage five is quality assurance: automatic ffprobe checks, frame sampling, loudness measurement, subtitle alignment, and delivery-promise verification.

Use cases include remixing YouTube, Shorts, Reels, and TikTok styles into derivative videos, AI-animated shorts (a Studio Ghibli-style animation costs as little as $0.15), brand marketing videos, product demos, educational explainers, and corporate promos. The minimum bar is Python 3.10+, FFmpeg, and Node.js 18+; a git clone plus make setup brings the system online, and you can run the full pipeline on free stock assets without any API key. Licensed under AGPL-3.0, the repository is highly active with 32k+ stars and 3.6k+ forks on GitHub. Within three months of its March 2026 launch it topped the GitHub Trending charts.
